I like the idea of tags. I didn't really understand them before we read about technorati and tickr. I can see how searching tags is more beneficial than using keyword searches. When I was searching for images for the Project 3 powerpoint, I needed pictures of the first camera ever made. It was hard to find because some of the pictures weren't even cameras. Some were pictures of people holding cameras. The captions had the word camera. I know that if i used a tag search for cameras it may have narrowed the amount of results although there will be some pics that wont be of cameras, but tagged that. Tags are just overall very helpful in finding blogs or pictures. Eventually more people will know more about tags and maybe stop using google or yahoo. Maybe google and yahoo will have to start using tags for their search engine...you never know.

Monkeycall and Dodgeball

I know technology is advancing, but some people are coming up with such weird ideas, such as monkeycall or dodgeball. First, monkeycall is just strange because it's a call with monkey sounds. Why not choose an automated person to talk to you. I have to say that the monkey is a very interesting mascot to use for the new company. I don't understand why people would pay to get a phone call with a monkey. It's just so strange, but as technology advances, maybe the weirder things there will be. Second is dodgeball, the program that allows you to practically stalk people. I would not be comfortable with this kind of program out there. Sure it can help you keep track of your crush, but it's still creepy. One day, technology will have to advance with programs to prevent stalkers that may be using dodgeball. Wouldn't that be fun...haha..

What I realized

There has been so much coverage and news about identity theft. This is a major downside of advancing technology. Everyone has information on you. It seems to be a little scary to think that your whole life is on the internet. For example, Alumnifinder.com helps schools find alumni's addresses or other contact info to send them mail. Even though this can be helpful, I realized that the site is able to see when you last charged something on your credit card and have your partial SSN#. People need to pay to see this information, but knowing that someone can hack in and see all your information scares me. Next thing will be that we need to find some kind of program to protect us. (but i dont think we will ever be truely safe)

now to class stuff...
I really liked the Project 3 because researching about the Photography museum was really interesting. I would attend any of the museums that were proposed in the presentations because it seems like a lot of fun, unlike some of the museums we have now. There's a really great hands on museum in SF called the Exploratorium. It's about all aspects of science, but they have simple experiments everywhere that you can try out and it makes it easier to understand. I actually come out of there learning something. I think these informal museums will be more interesting to attend then just plain art museums. I learn better with interaction. How about you?

what i've been up to

for the month of April:

I'm really enjoying my job as a student assistant with the President's Leadership Fund on campus because I know that I want to work in nonprofit in the future. My boss is the greatest because she is seeing if I can get an internship in a nonprofit organization up in the bay area during summer break.

The most stressful thing this month is looking for a place to live with 2 other girls. Its been hard because it seems like I'm doing all the work, making the appointments and driving all over the place. I think we finally got it resolved and plan to live in Mission Pacific...it's beautiful. I am really excited to get all new furniture too...I love to build it so im going to head to IKEA :). The best thing to use to find apartments or places to live is Craigslist, Apartmentguide.com, and Rent.com. It's crazy how people use internet sites just as much and even more than newspapers to search for places to live. There was an article in the school newspaper about how college students are using the internet more to find places to live because it allows for pictures and better descriptions than newspapers.

nothing is going on

so i don't think anything has been really happening this week. I had to take few midterms but that's about it. I'm looking forward to spring break because I get to go home and finally gamble at an Indian casino..so excited.

What are you up to for spring break?

When I compare myself to my parents using the rold of technology, there isn't as much of a difference. Yes, I have grown up with a computer and able to use programs that they can't such as AIM. I learn most of the computer programs and search engines from my dad since he works on computers all day. I know more than my mom would, but she knows programs that her work uses and I don't. I learn better by doing something. For example, I learned how to make a contact report by listening to my boss's directions and using the computer myself instead of watching someone click on the computer. I think they learn similar to me, such as trials and errors. I know my dad likes to try and learn from mistakes, but I'm not so sure about my mom.

Weekend and goodbye STI

Well I went home this past weekend and pretty much had a good time until Sunday evening. My uncle informed me that his Subaru STI had been stolen and when he finished telling us the story, the CHP called. He said, " we have found the car, but you are not going to like it." It turns out the car was stolen and completely stripped. It was gone for about a day and the car was left only with a dashboard 2 hrs from home. It really sucks. They say they might look into it more since it was professionally done. It was a really sad thing to happen to him. So now I worry for all cars.

New Job

My problem: Do I have time for a job?
Problem Restatement: Can I find a job on campus?
Pros: money, work experience, networking, have time
Cons: takes time, have to be flexible to their schedules, may not find on campus job
Cons fixes: have steady schedule, only work 20 hours a week, dont look for jobs off campus
Solution: found an on campus job (near cox arena) working with Presidents leadership fund so I am gaining office experience and they understand school comes first, great opportunity to network with school
